The same Rain , the different World

Monsoon is same but surroundings have changed . Do you agree? Well it's upto you. But after reading

this article ,many of you will agree with me . Let's begin with my childhood, memories . What

impression do you have when rain comes to your mind , I remember , the first shower meant ,to go out and

get drenched , in spite of getting warning from my mother of falling sick after getting wet ,but I always

turned deaf ears to her  warning and rushed out  .

The next thing was paper boat ,making newspaper boat was one of my favourite hobbies  during the

season  and after making boat ,I used to let it go free in a small drains over flowing with water and then

following it ,where ever  the boat floated until it was completely sunken under water.

Listening to the songs played on radio and humming along  ,reminded that even the broadcaster  had

weather updates .Megh Malhar and songs related to rains were frequently played on the radio ,which were

mood enhancer and so was the rain .

Waking up to heavy rain meant rainy day holiday , which meant full day fun and indoor games. And  if it

rained after school , then purposely splashing into pot holes while walking back from school to

home and getting our shoes and  socks wet ,so that ,the other day we can get a silly excuse for not going

to school and  it never happened because there was always an extra pair .

Rainy days were the best time to enjoy homemade delicacies like chai, pakoda and samosa with chutney.

It was already clear that if it rained for hours , then samosa or pakoda with hot tea will be served as

evening snacks , what a treat to relish ! The sound of pitter patter rain outside and inside the kitchen ,

crunchy and crispy samosa dancing in hot oil .It used to be the best time for the entire family coming

 together for the snacks party.

Rain brings new life to the surroundings .But when I look back ,it used to refresh the whole atmosphere ,

not only plants and trees but also every single human felt contented with the falling downpours because

 things looked bright and vibrant.

Back then, the deep fragrance of the wet earth, lush green trees, clean roads ,clean terrace, green moss

hanging on the walls and fewer people and less chaos on the roads were very common sights .

But today rain brings a barrage of disruptions -water logging , traffic jams , hazardous pot holes ,flash

floods ,dengue, falling infrastructure and much more .  These modern frustrations have dampened our

spirit of enjoyment , every enjoyment goes under water like the city street under a downpour.

PS -Rain nostalgia brings all the forgotten moments back to life and the feeling that those moments being

swept away in the present but gently wakes up the past.
